A winter hike through picturesque forests gives your body time to regenerate and unwind. The closeness to nature is particularly soothing, as the snow-covered landscape begins to sparkle in the winter sunlight. Afterwards, you can warm up again whilst relaxing in the wellness oasis and reflect on the wonderful day spent hiking in the winter.

Since summer 2018, there has been a new meeting place for art and culture lovers: the Skyspace in Lech. This walk-in art installation was created by the world-renowned artist James Turrell following his visit to Lech am Arlberg in 2014. Inside the dome, a world of vibrant colours unfolds. Guided tours take place at regular intervals (open only in dry weather!). Good winter boots and suitable winter clothing are recommended for the short hike up the mountain.

On a perfectly groomed winter hiking trail, those looking for a leisurely outing can make their way across a high plateau to the Flexen Pass at 1,773 metres above sea level. The route starts at the Trittkopfbahn. Numerous benches invite you to linger and enjoy the mountain sun. Once you reach the top of the Flexen Pass, you can refuel at the Flexenhäusl before heading back down to Zürs am Arlberg.

An old, covered wooden bridge marks the start of this leisurely walk – perfect for families with children – to Zug. After a short while, you’ll need to cross the road near a chapel before crossing another narrow bridge. Following the banks of the Lech, you eventually reach the centre of Zug.

High up, or more precisely at 2,350 metres, lies the circular high-altitude trail on the legendary Rüfikopf. The panoramic restaurant and the Kästle Museum are also located there. A 2.7-kilometre route can be covered on the Rüfikopf along the well-signposted winter hiking trail. The themed winter hiking trail starts right at the top station of the Rüfikopfbahn 1 and stretches across the sunny plateau on the Rüfikopf. A wide variety of stops along the circular trail provide you with interesting and impressive information about the fascinating element of ‘snow’. In addition, notable figures from the Arlberg region are introduced along the winter hiking trail. Afterwards, you can stop for a bite to eat at the Rüfikopf Restaurant, right next to the top station.

The circular high-altitude trail takes you high up – to 2,350 metres, to be precise – on the legendary Rüfikopf, where the panoramic restaurant and Kästle Museum are also located. You can cover 2.7 kilometres on the Rüfikopf along the well-signposted winter hiking trail. The Alpine landscape there is simply stunning! You can then stop for a bite to eat at the restaurant at the mountain station.
If you’re fancying a sunny hike to car-free Oberlech, the best place to start is at Rüfiplatz in Lech. After crossing an old wooden bridge, turn right and walk along the Lech. You’ll pass ski slopes and the Lech-Oberlech mountain railway before reaching the actual path to Oberlech. After a slight climb, you’ll reach Oberlech in about 20 minutes. From there, continue left through Oberlech to the Petersbodenbahn. Just a few metres further on, the path branches off to the left and heads downhill again towards Lech. The winter hiking trail ends at the Lechuferweg, and can of course also be completed in the opposite direction.

If you’re fancying a sunny hike to car-free Oberlech, the best place to start is at Rüfiplatz in Lech. After crossing an old wooden bridge, turn right and walk along the Lech. You’ll pass ski slopes and the Lech-Oberlech mountain railway before reaching the actual path to Oberlech. After a slight climb, you’ll reach Oberlech in about 20 minutes. From there, continue left through Oberlech to the Petersbodenbahn. Just a few metres further on, the path branches off to the left and heads downhill again towards Lech. The route ends at the Lechuferweg, though it can of course be completed in the opposite direction.
Starting in Lech, this well-maintained trail leads towards Zug. Thanks to strict certification in accordance with Ö-Norm S4611, the trail is always perfectly maintained and clearly signposted. You do not need any special equipment for this hike, as the paths are firm and provide good grip. The loop first runs along the banks of the Lech and then winds gently through the snow-covered forest. After a moderate climb, you can enjoy the fresh mountain air and the tranquillity of nature before returning to the starting point at a leisurely pace.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, you can join a group on a winter hike led by Arlberg Alpin. Depending on the route, the hike lasts between 2 and 4 hours. Please sign up for the guided tour at reception at the Tannbergerhof.
